A native of Blandon, Doctor Shuman has been practicing dentistry since 1973. He has been a member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, 4th District Dental Association, and Berks County Dental Association for 42 years. Doctor Shuman is a past president of the Berks County as well as 4th District Association. He served on the PDA Government Relations Committee for many years, as well as the Pennsylvania Dental Association Political Action Committee. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Pennyslvania Dental Association from 2009-2013. He was inducted into the International College of Dentists in 2002 and the Pierce Fandrand Academy in 2013. He has repeatedly been given the “Best in Berks Dentist” award and most recently been named to “Top Doctors in Philadelphia Area”.
Doctor Shuman graduated from Fleetwood High School with honors in 1965, Juniata College in 1969 with a BS in Biology, and the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine in 1973.
Although he has enjoyed all phases of family dentistry, Doctor Shuman has found that full mouth reconstruction cases have been most exciting and satisfying in his career. Outside of the office Dr. Shuman has served as dentist for both the Fleetwood and Brandywine Heights Area School Districts over the past 30 years. He also served as staff dentist to several nursing homes in the Berks County area. He has volunteered at the St. Joe’s free clinic in Reading as well as the PDA’s Give Kids a Smile Day, and Senior Smile program over the past 30 years. In his spare time Doctor Shuman enjoys hunting, raising German Shorthair pointing dogs, and resurrecting an oldies rock band from his college days in the 60’s.
Dr. Schwab has been practicing dentistry since 2006 and enjoys integrating fun and energy into his work. He has received many awards at the local, state, and national level for leadership and advocacy and is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry at the School of Dental Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Schwab has also lectured to the students at Harvard University School of Dental Medicine and Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry.
In his practice of Dentistry, Dr. Schwab has particular interests in Oral Medicine, Diagnosis of Oral and Maxillofacial Lesions, Pharmacology, and Restorative Dentistry. Our practice always utilizes the latest technology to keep your dental visits as painless and brief as possible. Dr. Schwab works with patients from age 1 to age 101 and is always strives toward ultimate patient comfort. We hope that you will trust your dental health to us.
Dr. Schwab is a Past-President of the Berks County Dental Society and the Pennsylvania 4th District Dental Society. He served as the Pennsylvania Dental Association New Dentist Committee Chairman from 2008-2010 and served as the Chairman of the American Dental Association New Dentist Committee in 2014. He also serves as the Associate Editor of the Pennsylvania Dental Journal. He currently serves as the School Dentist for the Fleetwood Area School District and previously served the same position for the Brandywine Area School District. Dr. Schwab is also the Dentist for the County of Berks Division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Residential Detention Center, and Juvenile Detention Center and County Shelter. He is also a regular volunteer at the St. Joseph Hospital Free Dental Clinic throughout the year.

Beth Gauker is a 1982 graduate of Fleetwood High School. After high school, Beth went to Northampton Community College graduating from the Dental Hygiene program in 1984. She earned her license to administer anesthesia in 2010.
Beth has been employed in the dental field for over 30 years and has been employed with Shuman & Schwab for 23 years. She is the proud mother of 2 grown daughters and 2 beautiful grandsons. Beth and her husband Bruce enjoy motorcycle riding in the summer and snowmobiling in the winter.
Kim has been an EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Assistant) and Hygienist for Shuman & Schwab for 28 years. She is a native “Blandon-ite”, growing up just down the street from the dental office, and has been a lifetime patient of Doctor Shuman’s. Kim graduated from Fleetwood High School in 1982. She received her cosmetology license in 1984, however; after much consideration, Kim decided on a career change and enrolled at Northampton Area Community College. In 1987 she graduated with her dental hygiene degree and started her job with Dr. Michael Shuman. She never thought that at age 21 that this job she really enjoyed would turn out to be a rewarding and fulfilling career. Kim acquired her EFDA license in 1992 and her license to administer local anesthesia in 2010. She serves as secretary for the Berks-Schuylkill Dental Hygienist Association and as a delegate to the Pennsylvania Dental Hygienist Association. She also serves on the Penn-Hypac legislative action committee for the PDHA.
Out of the office, Kim enjoys cooking, canning, quilting, gardening, reading, and days at the beach. She teaches Sunday School, and serves on Church Council. Kim along with her husband Lloyd of 31 years, and sons Bradyn and Carson reside in Kempton.
Sandiee G. graduated from Oley High School in 1973. She went on to further her education at the Berks Career and Technology Center, Oley Campus completing the Dental Assistant program in 1983. She received her EFDA (Expanded Function Dental Assistant) license through Harcum College in 2008. Sandiee serves as EFDA to Doctor Farrell and Doctor Schwab and is also our Zoom Bleaching specialist. Sandiee has been devoted to her patients for 26 years. Sandiee and husband Lee reside in Oley Township. Sandiee enjoys spending time with her 4 children, 3 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter
Jo graduated from Brandywine Heights High School in 1981. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. Shuman and in other local dental offices until 1995 when she graduated from Northampton Area Community College with a degree in Dental Hygiene. She acquired her anesthesia license in 2010. In addition to working as an assistant and hygienist for Shuman & Schwab, she also works as a hygienist for prosthodontist, Dr. John Muhr. Jo’s knowledge on implants, which she obtained from working in a prosthodontic office, has been a huge asset to our practice. Jo enjoys both assisting with the surgical placement of implants and educating her patients on proper home care. Outside the office Jo has volunteered her time at the St. Joe’s Dental Clinic and at Mission of Mercy PA (MOM & PA).
In her spare time, Jo enjoys hiking, outdoor activities, and spending time with her 3 grandchildren. Jo and her husband, Jim reside in Oley.
Sandy graduated from Fleetwood High School in 1977 and Central Pennsylvania College (formerly Central Pennsylvania Business School) in 1980 with an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. She has been employed with Shuman and Schwab for 35 years. ("I have been meaning to look for something else, but I haven’t had the time.") Sandy has three grown children and 5 adorably handsome grandsons and 1 beautiful granddaughter. She resides in Blandon with her husband, Steve.
Laura graduated from Fleetwood High School in 1998. Following high school graduation, Laura entered the Pennsylvania Air National Guard as a dental assistant until 2001. After being a stay at home mom, (to now 17 year old Guinevere), Laura enrolled in the Dental Assisting program at Berks Technical Institute, earning her Associate Degree in July 2015.
Laura, along with her daughter and husband, resides in Leesport.
Mary Grace graduated from Reading Central Catholic High School and worked in the secretarial profession until her children were older. She returned as a “non-traditional” student to Northampton Community College graduating in 1988 and receiving an Associate in Dental Hygiene. In 2005, she completed her BS from the University of St. Francis and her Public Health Dental Hygiene license in 2006.
She has had continuous membership in the American Dental Hygienists Assoc, PA Dental Hygiene Assoc. and served with the Berks Schuylkill Dental Hygiene Assoc. as President, Vice President, Secretary and continues to serve as Community Liaison Officer. She is a charter member of the Seal America in Reading Schools, and the Free Children’s Health Clinic held at Penn State Health St. Joseph dental clinic since 2000. She also represents BSDHA on the Berks Oral Health Task Force. Mary Grace worked for William S. Laubach, DMD for 27 years until his recent retirement in 2016.
She is the proud mother of 2 sons & 1 daughter who are married plus 8 beautiful grandchildren. She resides in Shillington, PA.
Katie graduated from Muhlenberg High School in 2008. She received her Dental Hygiene degree from Northampton Community College in 2013 as well as her license to administer local anesthesia. Katie enjoys educating her patients on their oral health. She is looking forward to spending many years at Shuman and Schwab. Katie, husband Cory, and sons Carson, age 2 and Charlie, 6 months reside in Oley. In her free time she enjoys spending time with family (including Black Lab/German Shepherd, Buddy) cooking, going to the beach, going to car shows and hopes to one year start a garden.
Ariel is a graduate of Muhlenberg High School. She received her Certificate of Dental Assisting at Harrisburg Area Community College in 2015 and EFDA license in 2020. She is a member of the American Dental Assistants Association. The dental field has always interested her and she enjoys working with patients. She appreciates the opportunity to work with Dr. Schwab, Dr. Valosin, Dr. Farrell, and the wonderful staff at Shuman & Schwab.
Ariel and husband, Brandon were married December 1, 2017 and had a “blast” honeymooning in Walt Disney World and Universal Studios, Florida.
Ariel enjoys wakeboarding, kayaking, amusement parks, and traveling. In general, she enjoys all outdoor sports and activities.
Courtney is a 2006 graduate of Oley Valley High School. She obtained her bachelors degree in biology from Kutztown University and then went on to attend Northampton Community College graduating in 2013 with her degree in dental hygiene. She also acquired her local anesthesia license in 2013. Courtney is passionate for educating individuals on their own oral health. Outside the office, she enjoys spending time with her two young children and working along side her husband doing carpentry and remodeling. Baking, cake decorating, and entertaining her large family and close friends are some of the things she enjoys most.
Linda is a 1976 graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School in Florida. She attended Lindsey Hopkins Vo-Tech for dental assisting and EFDA training in 1980-81. In addition to working part time for Dr. Schwab and Dr. Cambria, Linda has also been administrative assistant to Prosthodontist, Dr. John Muhr for 24 years and counting. In her spare time she enjoys walking, hiking, biking, crafts, & photography. Linda resides in Mohsville with her husband of 30 yrs, David.
Lori graduated from St. Clair Area High School, St. Clair, PA in 1981. She received her Dental Hygiene Degree from Northampton Community College in 1984. Lori has been employed as a dental hygienist for 34 years, both full and part time. Lori resides in Schnecksville with her husband Tom and they have a son and daughter who are both in college.
Lori shares the dedication and passion that the dentists and all of the staff at Shuman & Schwab have for improving the health of their patients.
In her spare time she enjoys working outdoors, spending time with family and friends, and walking and hiking with her miniature pinscher.
Sherri has been in the dental field for over 20 years. She began her career in an endodontic office assisting the doctor with root canal treatments and dental surgeries. Sherry especially enjoys working at the front desk greeting patients and being of service in any way she can. She feels very privileged to be part of a dental team whose doctors care so much about their patients and their staff.
Sherri is married with 2 grown daughters and 4 amazing grandchildren.
Dr. Christina Farrell graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor’s of Science and received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery from the University Of Maryland School Of Dentistry. She completed a residency at the Baltimore Veterans Affairs Hospital where she learned advanced techniques in general dentistry. Originally a Delaware native, Dr. Christy, husband Matt, and their energetic boxer, Journey now are enjoying life in Pennsylvania.
Dr Christy's fell in love with dentistry because it allows her to eliminate pain and improve smiles and overall confidence! She is dedicated to providing convenient and pain free dental care to patients of all ages!
Dr. Christy and her husband Matt recently moved to the Lehigh Valley and are excited to experience all that the region has to offer.

Dr. Brent Valosin graduated from the University of the Sciences with a Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree on May 16, 2019 from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Dental Medicine. He grew up in Orwigsburg Schuylkill County and attended Blue Mountain High School. For leisure, he enjoys spending time outdoors doing just about anything and playing with his dog, Jameson. Dr. Valosin is newly engaged to college sweetheart, Kaitlin. An October 2021 wedding is planned.
Dr. Brent looks forward to getting to know as many people as possible. Getting to know patients and their families is of the utmost importance to him while providing them with the highest quality of care.
Tania Ayala graduated from Berks Technical Institute’s Dental Assistant program in 2013. She worked as an Orthodontic Assistant for 5 years before heading back to school to earn her EFDA license. She completed her externship training here at Shuman & Schwab earning her license in 2018 from York Technical Institute ………and, as they say, the rest is history.
Tania loves meeting new people and being able to make a difference in the smile of her patients.
In her spare time, Tania loves shopping and going on long runs with her dog, Camila.
Dianne Martin started her 25 year career in dentistry as a Dental Assistant before taking on administrative duties. Dianne can be found at the front desk greeting patients with cheerful smile.
Diane loves and appreciates the passion of progressive dental health shared by everyone at Shuman & Schwab and feels blessed that her journey has brought here.
Dianne has two grown daughters and five awesome grandchildren. She and her husband of 44 years live in Leesport. You will find her gardening, on long walks, antiquing and following her grandchildren in their endeavors.
Owen Stemko began his dental career at Shuman & Schwab in the summer of 2018 as a dental assistant. Owen graduated from Kutztown Area High School and Berks Career & Technology Center, Oley campus, in the summer of 2020. At Berks Career and Technology Center, Owen attended the dental occupations program and became a National Entry Level Dental Assistant (NELDA).
Owen has always been fascinated with the medical field and loves providing care to patients of all ages. Owen’s future plans are to earn a bachelor and/or master’s degree in the science of nursing. Owen will be attending Reading Hospital Tower Health School of Nursing starting fall 2020.
Kim Hotzman graduated from Oley High School and Berk Vo-Tech Dental Assisting Program in 1981. She started a 35 year career with Dr. William Laubach in the capacity of chairside assistant and office manager. Upon his retirement, she continued her dental assisting career with Dr. Ronald Szish until his retirement. Kim is excited to be a new team member at Shuman & Schwab. Kim continues to grow, learning new things on a daily basis.
Kim looks forward to continuing established relationships with patients she has served for the past 35 years.
Out of the office, Kim has worked in several local restaurants as a server. She enjoys reading, feeding the birds and finds baking very therapeutic. Kim could not be any prouder than to share her life with son, Dalton, a junior at Penn State Main and daughter, Shelby, a sophomore at Ursinus College.
